MERA Systems Replaces MVTS I with MVTS Pro

MERA Systems, a provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) softswitch solutions, reportedly announced ‘End of Life’ for its VoIP Transit Softswitch I, which has been the most popular VoIP softswitch from the company for more than six years.

Multipurpose VoIP Transit Softswitch I, MVTS I, is now being replaced by MVTS Pro, the next generation Class 4 softswitch with session border control functionality, officials said.

Konstantin Nikashov, CEO of MERA Systems (News - Alert), said that it was an impetus for the company to announce the End of Life for MVTS I and to design a program to help MVTS I customers to easily migrate to MVTS Pro.

Back in April 2008, TMCnet had reported the launch of Multipurpose VoIP Transit Softstwitch Pro (MVTS Pro).

The MVTS Pro’s main job includes collection, switching and transcoding of VoIP traffic, management of signaling and media data streams and border access control, according to Nikashov.

MVTS Pro inherits the best features of MVTS I, including business-critical reliability and easy system management as well as an ability to provide smooth equipment and networks interconnection, Nikashov added.

Additionally, MVTS Pro offers high levels of scalability and ultra-high capacity with CPS up to 1000 per traffic entry point.

All of these features, combined with distributed architecture, geographic redundancy and dynamic distribution of traffic load, add to the system’s efficiency and ensure top-level fault-tolerance enabling transit carriers operate to the utmost of their capabilities.

Since MVTS Pro and MVTS I share similar routing concepts, the transition will be much easier. MVTS I customers will be able to keep significant part of MVTS I configuration, especially in respect of routing schemes.

Official announcement also said that existing customers won’t be able to order, extend or renew a service contract for MVTS I with effect from July 1, 2010. MERA Systems may also stop software releases or bug fixes with effect from April 1, 2011. After this date MERA Support Team will no longer develop or test MVTS I.

However, existing customers will continue to receive MVTS I support until July 1, 2011.

MERA Systems said that the new softswitch would enable its customers to meet the up-to-date requirements of VoIP carriers. To help customers with the transition process, MERA Systems has also launched MVTS I to MVTS Pro Transition Program. The company has also announced special prices to customers who join the program before August 1, 2009.

Several companies have already showed willingness to migrate to MVTS Pro in the nearest future, sources said.
